On Saturday, August 1, Foothill Credit Union welcomed families and students to the FCU Covina branch for a Backpack Giveaway, helping local students start the school year prepared with backpacks and school supplies, including pencils, pens, highlighters, lined paper, notebooks, and more!
In partnership with the Foothill Impact Foundation, we hosted the giveaway to support students and families throughout the San Gabriel Valley as they prepare for a successful school year. It was Foothill’s first time hosting the Backpack Giveaway, and the event was a huge success, with an amazing turnout!
“We were incredibly pleased with how the event went. Seeing the excitement from the students and families who attended made all of the planning worthwhile. It was wonderful to see Foothill Credit Union and the Foothill Impact Foundation come together to support local families and help students start the school year feeling more prepared and supported,” says Stacy Arena, Chair of the Foothill Impact Foundation.
Arena also feels that the giveaway was “an opportunity to show our community that Foothill Impact Foundation is here to support them through meaningful programs and initiatives” and looks forward to “continuing to find ways to support local students and families.”
The event was open to both Foothill Credit Union members and non-members, with participants registering online and being highly encouraged to share the opportunity with friends, family, neighbors, and classmates. Thanks to everyone who registered and shared the event, Foothill was able to donate 103 backpacks!
Veronica Verdugo, Senior Community Relations Coordinator at Foothill Credit Union, emphasizes that “the Backpack Giveaway really captured what community is all about.” To Foothill Credit Union, “it wasn’t just about handing out backpacks, it was about coming together to support local families and help students start the school year feeling prepared and excited.”

As a sweet ending to the giveaway, families were treated to free ice cream to help beat the summer heat. Foothill Credit Union is proud to stand alongside local students and families, and we look forward to continuing to host events that support, uplift, and prepare our community for the future.
