Youth Accounts (Ages 0-17)

Building strong financial habits starts early. Our Youth Accounts are designed to help children and teens learn how to save, spend, and manage money with confidence — with guidance from a parent or guardian along the way.

🏛️ Youth Account Savings Basics

  • Minimum Opening Deposit of $5.00
  • Minimum Balance of $5.00
  • Minimum Balance to earn dividends is $5.00
  • No Monthly Fees
  • Quarterly Statements
  • Rate Rewards: After account balance reaches $500, $1,000, and $1,500*
  • Earns Dividend Rates: Refer to current rates

☝️ At age 18, the account automatically transitions to a Young Adult Savings.

📚 Financial Education


The child must be eligible for membership at Foothill Federal Credit Union. Youth between ages 8 though 17 years  are required to be present with the parent at the time of opening the Youth Account. A parent or guardian must be a joint owner on the account with the child and provide the proof of identity for the child such as birth certificate, school ID, school records, or social security number.

* Add an additional 0.05% rate bonus when balances reach $500, $1,000, and $1,500.

Youth Checking Accounts

🏛️ Junior Checking (Ages 8-12)

Our Junior Checking Account is designed to introduce children (ages 8-12) to the power of saving and the importance of building smart financial habits early on. Through hands-on experience and guided support, young members begin to understand how money grows and how thoughtful decisions can shape their future.

☝️ At age 13, the account automatically transitions to Teen Checking.

🏛️ Teen Checking (Ages 13-17)

Our Teen Checking account gives teens (ages 13-17) hands-on experience managing their own money while building smart financial habits. They’ll learn how to use a checking account responsibly, track spending, and understand how everyday banking works as they gain more independence.

☝️ At age 18, the account automatically transitions to Protection Plus Checking.

💡 What You Need to Know About Opening a Youth Account

  • Children between ages 0 - 7 do not need to be present for account opening. Children ages 8 - 17 will need to be present.
  • Children not in school will need to show their Birth Certificate.
  • If child is in school, valid forms of verification include:
    • School ID
    • School Registration
    • CA ID or Drivers License
    • US Passport
  • If you do not know your child's Social Security Number, be sure to bring the social security card with you.
  • A parent or guardian must be a joint owner on the account with the child.

Please note that children age 7 and below do not need to be present for a parent or guardian to open a youth account. On the other hand, youth between the of ages 8 - 17 will need to be present along with the parents when opening the account.
